Artist's Statement
As I contemplated writing about my work, my thoughts returned to the moment I first thought of becoming an artist. While director of the museum shop at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, I was surrounded by wonderful examples of how creative people turned their thoughts and visions into art that could generate deep emotions for the viewer. That experience served as the catalyst for embarking on a journey, which has taken many years, and has included many long nights after work attending classes at various art colleges and other venues. It has been a delightfully rewarding trip!
In recent years, I have focused on working in oils for the effect you can achieve with vibrant, bold colors and strong shapes. Ironically, I have discovered that quick paintings are often among my best! My work is displayed at various exhibits in coastal Maine throughout the year. Selling my work is satisfying, but my passion for painting derives from knowing that I have created something that is alive and lasting.
